Privacy Policy

Effective [[TODO: effective date]] · Applies to the SimpleAvWx app for iPhone and iPad and this website (simpliflypilot.com).

SimpleAvWx is published by Simplifly LLC (“we”). This policy explains what the app does with information.

The short version

Information stored on your device

Location

If you allow it, the app reads your location while you're using it (it asks iOS for accuracy of about 3 km), only to center the map around you and show your position on the map. It never asks for “Always” access. Your location never leaves your device: the app does not send it to us or anyone else. You can turn location off any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → SimpleAvWx. Everything except “Near Me” works without it.

What the app sends over the internet

To get weather and airport information, the app makes requests to these services. They receive what's needed to answer the request. Like any internet service, they also see your device's IP address.

The server gets the weather itself from NOAA's Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov) and FAA data feeds; your IP address isn't passed on to them.

The app does not send your name, email, contacts, location, device identifiers, or advertising identifier to any of these services. Apple handles data under its own privacy policy. The NOAA and Iowa State services are public data services with their own policies.

Our server

Our server answers weather and airport requests. For security and operations (for example, stopping abuse and fixing problems), it keeps request logs containing your device's IP address, the time, and the requested airport code or search text. Logs are kept for 14 days and then deleted. They're used only for security and operations.

The server also archives weather reports (METARs and TAFs) for future features. These are public weather observations and forecasts, not information about you, and they don't include IP addresses or anything else about who requested them.

What we don't do

If you contact us

If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to reply and fix the problem, and we delete it within [[TODO: retention period]] unless we need it longer to resolve your request.

This website

This site has no cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts. Our web hosting provider (Hostinger) may log visitors' IP addresses for security, under its own policy.

If we change how the app handles information, we'll update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
